Unintended patch from Microsoft
31st October 2008
Microsoft has released a critical update for Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista.
Over the past two years this has been only the second patch, released out of the plan, that is, not within a monthly package of updates that come out every second Tuesday of the month. Such haste is due to a serious vulnerability found in the systems, which is already being actively used by hackers to attack.
The vulnerability relates to service Server, namely, tit e way it processes RPC requests (remote procedure call). The intruder could send a specially created request, due to which a malicious code can be launched on the remote computer without user`s permission.
Microsoft strongly recommends that all system administrators should install the patch to avoid possible attacks.
