Windows XP is going to be on sale till June 2008
5th October 2007
Microsoft, by means of the feedback, has recently announced that it is planning to sell Windows XP as a separate system and on the basis of contracts with computer stores until June 2008. Earlier, it was stated that Windows XP will be on sale till the end on Jan. 31. Most likely, Microsoft wanted to time this event to the new release of Vista. Nevertheless, small companies selling OEM solutions can preinstall XP until January 31, 2009. "Some buyers need a little more time to upgrade to Windows Vista," commented Mike Nash, Manager of the Windows department. Also, Windows XP Starter Edition will be delivered to countries with high piracy until June 30, 2010.
According to Nash, the previous versions of the last Windows systems had been sold earlier for about two years, so now Microsoft has decided not to make an exception for XP and restrict access to it after only a year after the release of Vista. The reluctance of buyers to quit using XP so quickly is already known from experience of Dell. The company prematurely excluded XP as preinstalled OS on their computers, but soon, under the pressure from buyers it was forced to restore installing XP initially for small businesses, and then for ordinary users.
