XDepth RAW: new RAW-format for cameras
17th October 2008
A new format under the name of XDepth RAW is based on the technology of image compression and combines advantages of a RAW-format and universality of the format Jpeg.
Many professional photographers and enthusiasts prefer RAW-formats, providing better image quality, than the standard Jpeg. However, the problem consists in the fact thet images of this format occupy much more of the disk space, and also cannot boast faultless compatibility with various software products.
Some time ago the company Trellis Management has presented the newest version of their own technology. An updated format XDepth Raw can be used for storing HDR-pictures with the colour depth of 72-bits per pixel. Size of the file of the specified extension is on average 0.2 Mb, while the majority of files in the standard Raw-format occupy over 1.5 Mb on the disk. Besides, files XDepth Raw can be easily opened and recognized by any widespread application implying the possibility of viewing Jpeg files.
