Brute Force Calculator: can you rely on your password?
23rd November 2008
The net residents willing to prove reliability of their passwords now can easily do it by means of the suberb PHP application called Brute Force Calculator.
The tool, developed by the Mandylion Labs specialists, is launched in the browser window and shows how reliable a password is.
The calculator asks a number of questions about the password used (it does not require to reveal the password), requests a general number of characters, the presence of digits, words meaning, etc…After processing the information received, the program indicates the time required to guess the password using a simple options examination.
For example, according to Brute Force Calculator, breaking the password consisting of seven characters and one digit will require about 29 minutes.
