Chinese pirates pass DVD for Blu-Ray
27th November 2008
Smart Chinese pirates decided to turn the black market into «blue», by learning to pass usual DVD discs for Blu-Ray.
Naturally, these disks have no high quality of the format Blu-Ray. Pirates simply copy content from Blu-Ray disks, and then lower its quality to 1080i using the codec AVCHD (Advanced Video Codec High Definition). Received lower quality video was recorded to DVD, and then distributed as Blu-Ray disks.
This type of counterfeit goods has yet been noticed nowhere except Asia market. Though, buyers should morally get ready for this type of fraud and not be surprised if purchased Blu-Ray disc turns out one of the DVD quality.
Some experts believe that it is Blu-Ray that will help the piracy to survive: films in this format occupy more space than in DVD, or MPEG, and for this reason are difficult to download from the Internet for free.
Nevertheless, this new method is really cynical towards the consumers, not publishers…
