CodeWeavers opened free access to CrossOver products
5th November 2008
The American software company CodeWeavers held a day for free downloading all their products from the line CrossOver.
The official press release said, in a humorous manner, of course, that this action was dedicated to the global financial crisis, falling prices for natural gas and recent actions of the U.S. President George W. Bush. Because of all these events CodeWeavers decided on the 28th of October 2008, to open access to anyone visited the company`s Web-site to the code for a free full version of the corporate software.
CrossOver products are designed to launch popular Windows-applications and games in other operating systems (Linux and Mac OS X). Their normal price is around 40-70 USD.
CodeWeavers creates CrossOver products based on the development of the Open Source-project WINE (a free implementation of Windows API for different platforms). In doing so, the company pays for the work of a number of programmers working on WINE.
