DeepDyve: new approach to search for information in the net
26th November 2008
It may seem that the market of Internet search engines is so complete that it is just impossible to have any more real competitive products.
Nevertheless, many new products of this kind are being actively developed. The new project DeepDyve is a proof of a tendency. This search engine can find up to 99% of pages that would have never been found by other search engines. So the developers say. These are those pages not cited by other sites, and, thus, missed by Google and the like engines.
DeepDyve searches for a page being based on its content, that is, compares the characters on it with those typed by a user. Unlike Google, where your request may consist of only 32 words, in DeepDyve it may consist of up to 25 thousand characters. This search engine scans text on the pages, finds similar fragments, and then selects articles more relevant to the request.
Currently, DeepDyve has already indexed about 500 million pages. So far, this engine will find you only articles related to health, patents and science of wildlife. In the near future, its subject area is planned to be expanded significantly.
