EMC Has Teamed With Intel For The Power Efficient Cloud Storage
5th November 2009
EMC is now working with the Intel Inc. on more energy efficient version of Atmos cloud storage system of EMC that would be available during the second half of coming year, as the companies have said it on Thursday.
Intel`s General Manager Jason Waxman told the reporters at the joint briefing with EMC that It is one of many ways that Intel is now working with other vendors for designing more power efficient systems for those companies who offer cloud computing services. The chip maker has also announced one program with the software vendors in order to test the software management stacks for use in those data centers which are large and scale-out.
Atmos is a platform of hardware and software that is mainly used by the service providers for managing multi petabyte storage systems, which can be spread across multiple data centers. The pay-as-you-go Synaptic hosting service of AT&T is actually based on Atmos, as cited by EMC.
Michael Feinberg who is the senior vice president with the cloud infrastructure group at EMC has said that the power management is the top concern for the customers of EMC. Besides cost per megawatt, many of the customers are being constrained by their power capacity of the data centers.
