Enterprises Are Taking Time To Switch To Windows 7
20th November 2009
According to CIOs, though the consumers are moving towards the new operating system of Microsoft i.e. Windows 7, but the bigger companies are not doing so.
There had been a SIMposium 2009 conference arranged by society for information management in Seattle. In that conference the IT leaders told that their companies are fine working with Windows XP operating system on their desktops.
Although it has been eight years since Windows XP has been released but most of the IT leaders seemed to be contended with that operating systems on their computers.
The CIO for sunoco, Peter Whatnell, has said that the petroleum retailers would not be switching their operating systems to Windows 7 for about 2 years at least. He further said that there is no charm for their company to switch to Windows 7 as the industry and nature of their company does not require so.
There are almost a number of 8500 employees present at Sunoco, but the number of people who have PCs is only 1000. Each one of them has XP operating system on their computers. Many of them upgraded to Office 2003 only at the start of the current year.
Sunoco mostly uses the Microsoft products and apps, and according to Whatnell, it is also considered to be N minus 1 shop, as the versions of the software are at least one or sometimes two versions behind the latest ones.
