German scientists are creating software for automobile networks
7th November 2008
The new software, being created by German scientists, will help drivers to coordinate their actions at performing dangerous maneuvers and make driving safer.
The innovative software proposes to consider all participants of the traffic at a certain stretch of the road as members of a single network that can interact with each other in real time and share vital information. However, most communication between the cars will be carried out in the automatic mode without involving drivers.
Scientists offer to group those cars moving in the same direction and located at a small distance from each other. Each member of the group automatically transmits data on its current location and “reports the situation” to a vehicle performing the function of the coordinator. This vehicle possesses full information on the situation at the stretch of road this vehicle is in charge of, helping to coordinate the actions of machines and avoid unexpected obstacles (child on the road, accident, tec…).
The developers also took into account that cars move on the road with different speeds and to different direction. The system prototype fairly quickly responds to changes in the group.
At the moment, the system is on the stage of development.
