I-Phone Worm Can Act Like A Botnet
30th November 2009
According to the experts of the security company, F-Secure, a second worm is expected to hit the I-phone. This worm is going to target the I-phone users, living in Netherlands, who are engaged in Internet banking with Dutch online bank ING. It means those who are into online baking, through their I-phones the security of their transactions is at stake.
This worm redirects the customers of the bank, to another look-alike site, which shows them a login page. It hits and attacks those phones, which are jail-broken. It is a modification, which helps the users to run other non-Apple approved software on any of their handsets. The handsets, which are at risk, also have a security shell (SSH) installed.
Most of the users use SSH, in order to enable their handsets to have connectivity of other programs with their I-phones and for the purpose of transferring files, among different things. It also comes along with a default password, "alpine", which should be definitely changed by the individual users.
F-secure has warned that the new worm is far more serious and harmful than the first one and can act like a bonet. This worm can allow anyone to access the I-phone of the user, without his permission.
