Java And Blackberry Have Got Some Critical Security Fixes
11th November 2009
Sun Microsystems and the Research in Motion both have issued some critical bug fixes for the security issues related to their products.
These patches were actually issued separately on Tuesday, with the Sun releasing its version 6 Update 17 of the Java Runtime Environment and the BlackBerry was updating its software of the BlackBerry Desktop, that are used for syncing the data between BlackBerry and the PC.
Both of these updates include the fixes for the critical security bugs which could be abused by the attackers for running the unauthorized software on the computer of a victim, though none of these flaws appeared to have been known publicly before Tuesday. Sun has patched a total of12 Java bugs, and includes those flaws that can be exploited for crashing a computer or that allows the untrusted applications for running as if they were the trusted ones.
The Sun estimates that there would be about 800 million of the Java desktop users worldwide, so the Sun's updates are very much important. The hackers have increasingly turned towards the third party software like Java as Microsoft Corporation has made it pretty hard for the hackers for attacking their core Windows operating system.
There is only a single BlackBerry bug fix and the problem lies in Lotus Notes DLL, which is added by default in all of the BlackBerry Desktop 5.0 and its earlier installations. RIM has warned that this flaw could also be used for running the unauthorized software on the PC of any victim.
