Microsoft is developing Office working under web browsers

Microsoft has long been planning to release a product-competitor to Google Docs, and at the conference of PDC 2008 the company has finally revealed their secrets.
At the very end of the event Microsoft demonstrated work of the web versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, which will be released simultaneously with the Microsoft Office 14 package.
One video demonstrated, showed how two people edit a document OneNote: via the normal version of the program and through the web interface, respectively. Another trailer showed how in the same way a few people work with a spreadsheet in real time.
Copies of documents in the Internet and local computers can automatically be synchronized with the technology LiveMesh, thus, relieving a user from the need to monitor the compliance of versions of the same document on different computers.
It is still unknown how Microsoft is going to provide documents synchronization. The company reported that the new Office package will be distributed via Microsoft Office Live.
Microsoft representatives did not report when the company is planning to release the next version of Office, but, most likely, it will happen after releasing Windows 7 in early 2010.
