Mozilla is going to move web-services to the desktop
2nd November 2007
Mozilla began developing an application Prism, which aims to contribute to the process of erasing borders between internet-applications and programs for the desktop. By means of Prism you can use the popular web-services such as GMail, as usual applications for the desktop, without the need to open a browser. Prism will be developed on the basis of Firefox, thus, supporting all web-technologies supported by the popular browser.
"Unlike Adobe AIR and Microsoft Silverlight, we are not building a proprietary platform designed to replace the Internet"- reports the official blog of Mozilla Labs.
Prism is not expected to be a completely separate application, but will be integrated into Firefox. To turn the Web service into the desktop application you will have to make only a couple of mouse clicks.
Prism is being developed for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
