New updated version of Firefox 2.0
30th November 2007
The community Mozilla.org has updated Firefox to version 2.0.0.10.
The proposed version of the popular product removes several vulnerabilities. The developers, in particular, solved the problem with processing archive files in the format .jar (Java Archive). The fact is that due to an error resulting from the process of checking jar- files formed in a special way, earlier versions of Firefox theoretically allow the attackers to carry out XSS-attacks (Cross-Site Scripting). The problem was found in February for the first time, and earlier this month an example of malicious code to use the gap appeared in the network.
In addition, Mozilla.org removed several mistakes that can result in damage to data stored in memory. At least one of these vulnerabilities allows, in theory, executing harmful code on the remote computer.
Firefox 2.0.0.10 is available for operating systems Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS X and Linux.
Meanwhile, about a week ago, the community Mozilla.org released the first beta version of Firefox 3. Firefox 3 will have additional security tools, completely reworked system of bookmarks, called Places, improved manager of downloads, etc. The second beta Firefox 3 will be released till the end of the year. At the beginning of next year Mozilla.org plans to release the third and the final beta-version of the browser. Then, the release of the final version of the product comes.
