Objections Of EU Over Oracle's Sun Acquisition
17th November 2009
EU i.e. European Commission has given a formal objection statement regarding the take over of Oracle on sun Microsystems. This has been said in the regulatory filing of Sun.
The answer of Oracle over this statement was highly opposing. Oracle said that the position of the commission is giving a misconception about the company over the database competition and also about the open source dynamics. After the statement of European Commission, the U.S department of justice also disapproved this deal. We must remember that this deal was already been passed by the department of justice. The U.S department of justice has said that after a thorough study and careful reading of the deal, they have come to the solution that this deal should be disapproved as nobody should be supporting the anticompetitive deals.
This objection statement was also rumored to be imminent. The deal is also waiting for the decision of the commission during the month of September, as they would be launching in depth probe of this acquisition. This also gave way for the European antitrust investigations, which gave passage to Oracle for making any formal response.
Sun, in the regulatory filing, has said that this objection statement is actually the preliminary judgment of the European commission about the combination of open source database product MySQL of Sun with Oracle and also the negative effects on the competition in market.
