The software giant has announced its plans to buy the Sun earlier during this year, but that deal went on hold while the European authorities were conducting an antitrust review. In the mean time, then users have been questioning the fate of Sun software and the systems under Oracle, with the particular concern of centering on MySQL open source database.

Oracle has planed to continue to evolve GlassFish, a competitor to the WebLogic application server, and also to provide its active support for the GlassFish community as according to the updated FAQ on this acquisition.

According to that FAQ, Oracle is planning to invest in alignment of the common infrastructure components and the innovations from Oracle WebLogic Server and also GlassFish Enterprise Server in order to benefit the customers in both of the camps.

The FAQ expressed much more of a lukewarm commitment to the NetBeans by saying only that this is expected to provide additional and extra open source option and complement to the tools of Oracle that includes JDeveloper and the Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse. JDeveloper is a part of the Fusion Middleware portfolio of Oracle that underpins the next generation Fusion Applications of the company. One initial Fusion Applications suite, after a protracted delay is expected in the next year.
