11th November 2009
Shortly after the European regulators have opened the antitrust probe into the Oracle's pending acquisition of Sun Microsystems, the SAP CEO LÊo Apotheker has written to Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, in which he asked for a meeting for discussing the merger and some other open issues between their vendors as according to the Wall Street Journal editorial which was published late this Thursday.
James Dever, the SAP spokesman has confirmed it that Apotheker had written to Ellison seeking a dialogue, but he has declined to provide one copy of this letter. That letter was sent on Sept. 15 and was consisting of the following brief statements as according to the Journal. It had said that they have some significant concerns about the proposed takeover of Oracle over Sun. They are now renewing their invitation to meet in order to attempt for resolving the concerns and some other open issues between the companies. It asked them to let him know if and when the other company would like to meet.
The editorial of the Wall Street Journal has referred to the speculation that European Commission is also blocking the Sun acquisition due to the lobbying efforts done by SAP. It has also noted one of the major open issues between these companies and it is the intellectual property lawsuit that Oracle has filed against the SAP in connection with the TomorrowNow, which is a now shuttered subsidiary of the SAP which provided the third party support for the Oracle applications.
