Senate Committee Has Approved The Data Breach Notification Bills
12th November 2009
The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee has now approved two of the bills which would be requiring the organizations with the data breaches to report them about the potential victims. This Judiciary Committee has voted to approve both of the Personal Data Privacy as well as the Security Act and the Data Breach Notification Act by majority.
This Data Breach Notification Act, as sponsored by the Senator Dianne Feinstein, who is a California Democrat, would be requiring the U.S. agencies as well as the businesses that engage in the interstate commerce for reporting the data breaches to the victims whose personal information had been, or reasonably to be believed that have been, accessed, or being acquired.
The Feinstein's bill would also be requiring the agencies as well the businesses to report the large data breaches to U.S. Secret Service. Personal Data Privacy and the Security Act would also be requiring that the organizations which maintain the personal data give a notice to the potential victims and to the law enforcement authorities too when they have any data breach. It would be increasing the criminal penalties for the electronic data theft and will be allowing the people to have access to, and also correcting, the personal data held by the commercial data brokers.
