Sun Microsystems announces Solaris 10 version 10/08

Sun Microsystems Corp. has announced a new version of the popular server operating system, Solaris 10 10/08.
The updated version offers a number of innovations and enhancements many of which were the result of fruitful cooperation between developers from Sun and the open community OpenSolaris members. One of the most notable innovations is the updated file system ZFS, which guarantees the integrity of critically vital data and can boast integrated mechanisms of the failure recovery.
The new OS version provides for the installation and booting the system of any class with ZFS, in addition, ZFS can now be used as a root File System.
Users are offered better mechanisms of virtualization. Including updated subsystem Solaris Containers will simplify the transfer of tasks between Solaris systems. And thanks to continuous cooperation between Sun and the Intel chip manufacturer, the proposed version of Solaris 10 will support the newest line of Intel Xeon processor.
Particular attention in this version is paid to problems of compatibility.
Solaris 10 10/08 will be available for downloading at the official site of the product at the beginning of December.
