The Japan Studios Is Lagging On The Development Of Playstation 3

While speaking to Gamasutra, Shuhei Yoshida who is the head of the Sony Worldwide Studios had to face tough questions about the lack of the presence of the first-party developer i.e. the Japan Studios on PlayStation 3. By far this time Trash Panic, Siren and The Eye of Judgment, are thought to be the only titles that the Japan Studios has brought up to the console, whereas the other titles that are developed outside of the Japan have become defining games on the PlayStation 3. Their names are LittleBigPlanet, WipEout, Resistance, Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, inFamous and the God of War.

As according to Yoshida, the initial focus of the Japan Studios during this generation was always been on the PSP that reflects on the success of this PSP as one platform in Japan. But even the titles such as the Patapon and the LocoRoco, even being popular, are not considered as some big hits for the handheld. Yoshida understands the need for shifting the Japanese studios on to the PS3 development.

He said that as he came back to Japan, he felt about the Japanese consumers who were suffering the most as they have mostly played on the portable systems like PSP and also the DS. Their franchises have moved from consoles to the portables one.
