The New Google Nav Service Is Android-Only Or Not
4th November 2009
The new Google Maps Navigation launch has put the company in a direct competition with the GPS makers and its former best friend, Apple. This service that can easily replace standalone GPS, is available only for the handsets that run Google's Android operating system.
A Google spokesperson has said in an e-mail statement that Apple is its close partner, and the millions of users will be experiencing Google Maps on iPhone. He also said that they will continue working with the Apple Inc. to bring the innovation that includes Latitude and Navigation to the users, but for this people have to speak to Apple about the availability.
At a time, Google Maps Navigation would have been surfaced first on the iPhone of Apple. But, now announcement of this service, which is coinciding with formal announcement of Droid handset of Motorola, makes no mention of Apple`s iPhone.
The other navigation app of Google, which is a locator service and is called the Latitude, is not available as iPhone application and it remains as one the hottest subject of controversy as to who kept it away from being released, whether AT&T or Apple.
According to the official blog of Google, this service includes all of the features that one expects in high-end GPS made for automobile. They include voice navigation which is turn-by-turn, search by voice, traffic data that is live, constant updating of maps, and the searching along a route.
