The Old Android Devices Might Not Be Supporting Android 2.0
12th November 2009
With the release of the Verizon Wireless' Droid phone, there comes first real test of potential for fragmentation with the Android. The Droid would be first phone that runs Android 2.0. After it has gone on sale, there had been the Android phones on the market which are running three of the different versions of the OS.
But the operators and also the hardware manufacturers are currently selling the Android phones are coy about this thing that whether the devices would be upgraded with the new OS or not. If some of the phones continue to run the old versions, the issues could arise with the application compatibility across different versions of the OS.
Motorola, who's Cliq can run the Android version 1.5, would not be specifically saying that if the users of that phone would be offered the update 2.0. A Motorola spokesperson has said that Cliq with the Motoblur can also be upgraded over the air and it would be evolving to support how the needs of the people have changed. However, Motorola has not yet announced any of the updates at this time.
Google has given an equally vague answer to the questions about which of the phones might be upgraded and that if any of them had some hardware limitations that might be preventing the upgrade. Katie Watson, who is a Google's spokeswoman has said that as Android is an open source, all of the software updates released are being available for the carriers and also for the handset makers to take and then update their current or the future Android powered devices.
