VideoLAN Client 0.9.6: service release of the cross-platform player

A new version of the cross-platform multi-media player VLC (VideoLAN Client) has come out. This is a universal player that can play virtually any existing to the moment formats of video and audio files: MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, XviD, H.264, MP3, OGG and others, as well as conventional DVD and VCD discs.
One of its features is the ability to play almost any type of stream video, including traffic flow from satellite receivers. It can act as server for broadcasting in the network and over IPv4 or IPv6 protocols, provided there is sufficient bandwidth.
It does not require installing any additional codecs, for it already contains all the needed components (based on other open-source projects).
