VMware Player is a free tool that allows users to run a virtual machine under a computer, running under Linux or Windows.
The program is useful for beta testing of software. Unlike the commercial program of VMware Workstation, VMware Player utility can not create virtual machines. However, it may offer a few ready applications that can be downloaded from the site of the developer. VMware Player is also compatible with machines created in the formats of Virtual PC and Symantec LiveState Recovery.
The latest version adds support of smart cards and the mode of Unity for guest Linux systems; improves work with 3D-applications for guest Windows XP systems.
