Yahoo Has Donated The Traffic Server To Apache
6th November 2009
Yahoo has started an open source version of the Traffic Server software on Monday that is serving as one high performance application server for the cloud computing services.
The code for Traffic Server is also available as the Incubator project at the Software Foundation at Apache. In making the Traffic Server as open source, Yahoo is hoping to build one developer and a user community around this technology. The company has also revealed the open source effort at Cloud Computing Conference & Expo conference held in Santa Clara, Calif., and Yahoo will also be announcing an updated version of the distribution of its open source Hadoop which is a distributed file system for the batch processing of huge amounts of data.
It features a framework of low latency, the Traffic Server is also providing services for the cloud computing stack, and includes session and configuration management, the load balancing, its authentication, and the routing as said by Yahoo. The traffic over the web could be delivered at very high rates; as the plug in nature of the architecture makes the Traffic Server extensible as according to Yahoo.
This software is actually an HTTP processing application and it has been used for about more than 8 years at Yahoo. It currently is serving more than thirty billion of the web objects in a day and also more than four hundred TB of daily data in the network of Yahoo.
