Activision prevents releasing patch for Guitar Hero

22nd December 2007

The developers of the game Rock Band, the Harmonix studio, have reported on its official site that the publisher of the game Activision prevents releasing the update for the PS3- version, allowing the usage with the game a variety of third-party controllers, including the controller of the competitive game Guitar Hero III.
Rock Band’s developers argue that the patch was ready a few weeks ago and sent for approval to Sony’s professionals. The approval was received some time ago, but then information appeared, that Activision did not approve of such compatibility and protested against the patch. There have been no comments from Sony and Activision so far, but, according to Harmonix, the update is not likely to be released. Presumable, the main reason is the competitive status of Rock Band towards Guitar Hero III, released by Activision.
We’d like to point out, that Rock Band is published by MTV Games and so far it is the most ambitious project of the studio Harmonix. The additional popularity of the game belongs to music provided by the major record companies - EMI Music, Hollywood Records, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Universal Music Enterprises and Rhino Entertainment.
It is noticeable, that Xbox 360 version of Rock Band does support the use of controllers from third-party developers.
