G.hn: home networks standard
30th December 2008
The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) approved the standard G.hn, which in the nearest future will be used for deployment of home network infrastructures, and allow high-speed data exchange between devices on electric and telephone wires, and also on coaxial cable.
According to the developers, the channel bandwidth must be high enough to transfer high-definition video. Thus, the owners of modern video players, TV consoles and PC will be able to watch movies and broadcasts on TV established in any room. Data transfer speed will depend on the connection type. < br> To promote the standard, the manufacturers created a working group called HomeGrid Forum, consisting of such companies as Intel, Infineon, Panasonic and Texas Instruments. According to HomeGrid Forum, the final standard version will be available in September 2009. The first samples of G.hn-compatible chips will come out in early 2010.
