List of top 10 PC threats 2008: already made up

Experts of the company Websense have made up a list of top ten types of computer threats, which are expected to be most prevalent next year.
Websenseâ€™ experts based their forecasts on statistics provided by Websense ThreatSeeker and Websense On Demand services. The first service is a scanner, performing weekly inspection of over 600 million web pages for the presence of malicious code. Websense On Demand Services, in its turn, checks every week up to 350 million e-mails, delivered via the network.
The first of the hit parade, according to Websense, goes to Olympic Games, which will be held next summer in Beijing. According to experts, the strong interest for sports competitions from internet users will lead to increase in the intensity of DoS-attacks, a sharp increase in letters containing malicious attachments and infected sites.
The second line of the list belongs to web-spam. Websense specialists believe that in 2008, attackers will increasingly place links to infected resources in blogs, forums, on pages with comments, and so on.
Top three is enclosed by attacks on Web 2.0. Attackers, according to Websense, will exploit vulnerabilities in various online services, widgets, social networks, etcâ€¦
The fourth place is given to infected sites. On the fifth position cross-platform attacks are situated. According to Websenseâ€™s forecasts, attackers will increasingly create harmful universal code, capable of damaging the systems of Windows, Mac OS X and even the popular mobile devices such as iPhone.
The sixth line goes to attacks, held against certain categories of users, such as joint by interests. The seventh place is occupied by the polymorphism technology of JavaScript code. The constantly changing harmful code will be more difficult to track down and block.
The eighth line Websense gives to the methods of concealing data. The experts predict that hackers will increasingly build in codes various protocols and media files
. The ninth place belongs to cyber-criminals themselves. According to Websense, in the coming year, the joint efforts of the security forces in different countries will permit to block activities of major criminal gangs.
Finally, the last position of the list belongs to the so-called â€œvishingâ€ (voice phishing), and voice spam. Websense Experts believe that with the increasing popularity of IP- telephony services, such fraud means will be applied more often.
