MySQL 5.1: updating most popular DBMS

The company Sun Microsystems announced a new version of one of the most popular open source database management system of MySQL 5.1.
During the first 10 days since MySQL 5.1 was released, it has been downloaded more than 250 times. Open DBMS has turned for these recent years into a full-functioning alternative to well-known brand products. The market of products and services related to open DBMS, according to the analytical agency Gartner, can well reach the turnover of U.S. $ 1 billion already by 2013 - now it amounts about $ 600 million a year.
The package MySQL 5.1, as one of the most prominent representative of its kind, is now often recommended for use even in vital applications, when you need dramatically reduce costs of licensing. The new version of the platform provides many improvements in performance, management, and support of adequate scaling for use in industrial environments.
Key innovations of MySQL 5.1 include splitting spreadsheets and indexes into logical sections. The package supports 5 types of horizontal partitioning of data: by range, by hash, by Keys, by sub-partitioning. This logic partitioning helps to accelerate processing queries.
Other important innovations relate to replication: now MySQL 5.1 supports two new types of replication: line-by-line and hybrid.
The new events scheduler, implemented in the platform MySQL 5.1, allows developers and database administrators to automatically perform repeated operations, based on the use of SQL-queries and expressions.
Now MySQL 5.1 also provides the new service of MySQL Query Analyzer. This service allows you to accurately track the efficiency of queries to the database, thereby increasing performance and duration of smooth functioning of any DBMS applications based on MySQL 5.1.
