Office 2007 SP1 is automatically downloaded while testing Vista SP1 and XP SP3
22nd December 2007
When a user has an unlimited access to the Internet, the matter of saving traffic is solved automatically. But when it is necessary to pay only for traffic, there appears the need to monitor the quantity of information downloaded. And any user gets really upset at discovering that he downloaded a lot of unneeded information and wasted traffic on it. This was the exact situation, some owners of Office 2007 got into the other day. Although Microsoft assured that Office 2007 SP1 will not be automatically downloaded via Windows Automatic Updates, in fact, this was not quite right.
An unexpected “gift” have been given to those who, in due course, installed test builds of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and XP SP3: Office 2007 SP1 was downloaded automatically along with them. Later, it became known, that Microsoft did warn participants about automatic installation of Office 2007 SP1 within downloading beta-programs. Another problem is that Windows Automatic Updates still makes downloading and installation of the update of the office package even if it was manually downloaded and installed before.
We are only left to wait until Microsoft solves this problem.
