28th December 2007
On the run-up to Christmas holidays mailboxes again became full of malicious reports that disguise under greeting cards.
The company F-Secure reports on the mass mailing of letters, which contain a message that the user received a postcard from Yahoo! Greetings. Going to the proposed link, a user occurs on a harmful site where he receives a message on the need to download Adobe Flash Player, which is supposedly needed to view the card. In fact, this way the computer downloads a malicious program macromedia-flashplayerupdate.exe. The program collects at different confidential computer data and sends them to its creator.
In addition, F-Secure announced another threat. Letters come with an attachment named Happynewyear.exe. After starting the file on the desktop the Christmas tree appears, and meanwhile the trojan collects all the personal data.
