Software contains 3 exercises: Text, String and Table. ”Text exercise” has an adjustable line width, font size and speed. By following the tips reader is supposed to keep focus on the text centre while moving downwards from top to bottom. That is true and that is one of the key components in Peripheral Reading. But soon I was disappointed as I couldn’t find any other explanations on how fast I am supposed to read, how regular I have to train and what to do if my comprehension is still poor. Basically they give some kind of tool, but don’t give any explanation on how to use it. But this problem is common for 99% other speed reading programs. I guess it happens because those soft programs are usually created by IT guys and not by people who actually work in the classrooms. “String exercise” is fun. It can help to expand peripheral vision, but only to left and right. It is much better to work with “Table exercise” which if done properly expands peripheral vision not only to left and right but also up and down. Time consumption for those exercises can be the same, but the outcome will be twice better if working out with “Table exercise”. ”Table exercise”. The given task to outpace the computer is not effective as the beginners simply need more time to catch the numbers and strengthen eye muscles. If they are forced to rush the eyes starts jumping and looking for a numbers. Students can’t complete exercise properly in a rush, they get irritated and nervous. Working with tables has to be done in comfortable rate. The student has to take as much time as he needs to complete one table. The time is not as important in doing this exercise as the ability to focus the eye into central number. And it is quite difficult to do it for first 300 - 400 tables. Later on the eye muscles get used to it and only then real improvement in reading happens. So the given tool is good, but the explanation how to use it is very poor and might lead to poor results as well. Lots of promises are given in ad, but basically they give 3 exercises with 30 % of explanation how to work with them. For this software I would give overall rating 4 out of 10 and that’s only for advice to go downwards the page keeping focus on the centre of the text and for Schulte tables.
