Installed without trouble on two different Windows XP machines. Found three infected files on the first and about a thousand on the second (this was the kids machine). Used PANDA (www.panda.com) tool to cleanup the infected files (mostly Win32:Parite virus)

Avast is a FREE antivirus download. It beats every other antivirus I have ever used as it is very simple to use and updates itself regularly also for free. It picks up any infection within a system and also scans p2p files and email without any fuss. I cannnot speak highly enough of avast antivirus, I strongly recommend you try it out before spending money on an inferior product.

I started having problems with AVG Free Edition updating for me, so I downloaded Avast Home Free Edition. It found some false virus's that I later determined on their website forums that were from Panda Antivirus scanner. It also indicated I had a Win95:SK virus, which is very serious from what I have read. However in reading their forum, I am not so certain I actually have that one either. I always loved AVG and it never failed me before now...always catching things others, including Norton and McAfee missed. The main thing I don't like about Avast, is that you have to get the PAY version, for it to automatically take care of the virus. In the free version, it stops when it locates something and waits until you tell it whether to heal it or put it in the Virus Chest. You also cannot schedule it to run automatically in the free version. AVG does this in it's free version. There are some other things in the free Avast that I don't think AVG offers. It DOES seem to scan EVERYTHING and more! It does automatically update, even more than once a day! And it "tells" you, in voice, that it has updated. The advanced user interface is not available in the free edition, even tho they imply it is. I am going to run it for a while and see how it goes. If it becomes too much of a hassle, I will try to reinstall AVG.

I tried it on Windows 2000 Pro (SP4). Before installation, my computer did not crash. But after the installation, it crashed. It conflicts with Diskeeper 7. So I went back to my good old AVG 6.0 Free Edition (www.grisoft.com), and it was fine. However, other users may find it very good. As for me, AVG 6.0 Free Edition has never failed me. I am happy with AVG 6.0
