PDA based professional surveying solution for building surveys

A new building survey software was announced to the market with an innovative approach to support professional building surveys, incorporating floor plan, elevation or cross-section surveys using a mobile personal data assistant (PDA). OrthoGraph Survey facilitates instant digital floor plan sketching, creation of AutoCAD compatible drawings and automatic measurement on site; therefore surveyors can see and check each floor plan drawing before leaving the site massively reducing office time. The new software helps real estate agencies, construction companies, engineering and structural surveyors, real estate valuation companies, architects, facility manager companies or companies managing large facility portfolios.

The goal of the new product developed by the company OrthoGraph is the highest achievable support of floor plan surveying of facilities. Using the software the measurements are produced in electronic format right on the spot while all possible data-entry equipments are supported. The system is able to manage large amounts of data rapidly, supports teamwork and handles laser distance meters or barcode readers via Bluetooth.

After specifying the structure of rooms, each room (or logical zone, area) can have its own drawing. This drawing is uniquely created first by sketching in the particular room into a PDA, and that measuring the distances. To keep the sketching process as easy as possible the system provides numerous tools like "Ghost layer" that allows the user to show and snap to already sketched or measured zones. In many cases it may be enough to have the particular rooms sketched and partly measured (which is supported by the "fast measure" function), but in some cases it is required to have them exactly surveyed. Using the automatic measurement function the software warns the user for each missing measurement one by one and for doing all necessary measurements on site.

Measured distances can be entered on-screen but the fastest way is to use a laser distance meter. The model Leica Disto A6 is such a measurement device, which is supported by default. By using Bluetooth connection it transfers the measured distances with one single click.

Joining rooms to each other can be done easily through walls, wall openings, corners or endpoints. The fully measured rooms act as fix drawings (called islands) and after joining them they will move together (called floating island function).

The program supports drawing of walls, windows, doors, recesses, chimneys, columns, ducts and many more. These graphical elements are placed onto the wall lines, and can have width and height and other parameters.

Besides DWG other file formats are supported like .xls, pdf, .txt, .xml. The integration with other existing systems is also very easy either by using standard file formats or creating a custom native interface add-on. Such a connection is already available to some CAFM systems like ArchiFM as an example.
