Editor's review WinOrganizer

WinOrganizer program icon

- A personal information manager with the tree-type structure for storing data, which includes combined into one planner, notepad and address book. By the way, the notepad is a really good text editor supporting RFT- files, search and substitute features, formatting paragraphs and pasting images into the text; and the address book supports templates and customizable fields for each contact, as well as phone numbers auto recognition and the dialing option. Besides, it has such a nice option as adding the program with varied databases (you can take them from the developer.s site): from a crosswords fun.s dictionary to horoscopes one.

I've used WinOrganizer for a year now, and highly recommend the software. You can start using the software without consulting the manual, but as you continue to use it, you discover even more features. I've downloaded all the other PIM's out there, but always come back to WinOrganizer when I need to get some serious work done. The only drawback I can see is, although WinOrganizer does a great job with tables, it makes no provision for simple mathematical functions in those tables -- add columns, etc. That ability, to produce a very simple spreadsheet, would allow so much more work to be done inside the program. However, that's the only drawback I have encountered. Otherwise, the program is the most powerful AND most flexible AND most easy-to-use PIM I have found.

Pretty good overall compared to most other PIMs but a few glaring faults: 1. previewing and printing scaled images doesn't work - the image is chopped and wrapped around. 2. After scaling, images can't be restored to original size. 3. Global compound searches are hard to enter because only grep is allowed, eg. to search for "Thomas" and "George" you can't say "Thomas" AND "George", you have to perform 2 searches with .*Thomas.*George.* and .*George.*Thomas.* and also the search text is not highlighted with compound searches, only simple single word searches. In its defense, I have to say that this is one of only a few PIMs that can even perform a compound search at all. Also, most other PIMs don't all support such a rich feature set - tables, calendar (where you can set alarms for appointments), embedded images and objects, RTF (Rich Text Format), global compound searching (shockingly, this is not available in most PIMs which is incredible because the information is only useful if I can retrieve it well), encryption.
