Enable Xp is a file-sharing clients like, for example, KaZaA. They both use the peer to peer networks.
The ED2k links on websites are pointers to files shared on the Enable Xp network. When you click on a link, it is intercepted by the Enable Xp client, and the file is added to your download list.
Obviously, the first thing you need is a client. Originally the only client available was the official client, which can still be found at www.software-x.net. We suggest you use the new open-source client called Enable Xp, which introduces a few new features and is easier to use. Download the "Enable Xpx.xx_Installer.exe" version.
Because Enable Xp is easier to use and support than Enable Xp, we've decided to shift the focus of this FAQ to it. If you'd like the old FAQ handling Enable Xp, click here.
On the "General" tab, click the "ED2K Links" button. Under "Connection", clickthe Wizard button (lower-right) and select your connetion, 6-15 concurrent downloads and click OK. Switch on "Autoconnect on startup", "Reconnect on loss" and "Reconnect on LowID". Click OK.
Now click on Servers, and in the "Update server.met from URL" box, paste "http://ocbmaurice.dyndns.org/pl/slist.pl/server.met?download/server-max.met" and click "Update". This should update your serverlist, after which you should restart Enable Xp.
Enable Xp should now start trying to connect to the servers in your list. You can see its progress in the status box at the bottom of the Servers section
