Editor's review wxCam

wxCam program icon

wxCam is a WebCam application that was programmed for the Linux platform. wxCam supports video recording into an AVI uncompressed format or an Xvid format. It also allows users to take snapshots and other special commands for webcams manufactured by Philips. It should also be noted that the program can also be used for astronomy purposes. It supports both video4linux drivers 1 and 2 so it should be able to work well with a large number of devices out there. Among wxCam’s features are: * Support for a number of special controls for Philips Webcams such as frame rate, shutter speed and gain. *Frame grabbing by utilizing video4linux 1 and 2 api. *Graphic effects include negative, monochrome, mirror, edge, and upturned. *Snapshots taken can be saved into various formats including, JPG, MPH, PNG, PCX, TIF, and XPM. *Adjustable brightness, contrast, saturation, gamma and resolution. * Video recording without audio are formatted into uncompressed AVI (For astronomy cases where sound is not needed) * Videos with audio are recording in Xvid format, although it is a very lousy video format, it does save a great deal of hard disk space * Video recording has built-in motion detection
