Editor's review WinZip

WinZip program icon

WinZip 11.0 Build 7313: the program does not need any special introduction as it is one of the best ofd its kind. It works with CAB, TAR, gzip, UUencode, XXencode, BinHex, and MIME format, and, of course, with the ZIP and RAR. In addition, through external programs it can work with files ARJ, LZH, and ARC. Creates self-unpacking archives, adds comments to the archives, puts passwords on files, etc...It also offers a user-friendly interface and integration with Windows. WinZip's evaluating period is 45 days. What's new: supports extracting files from archives in RAR and BZ2; automatic suggestion of the best compression and a new algorithm for WAV files; improved interface and other small changes.

This utility is too expensive compared to the possibilities offered; easy to use but few features, why does it cost more than WinZip? Try WinRAR instead, it have the same Self-extracting options and it's more convenient.

I'm not opposed to WinZip making a buck but the Self Extractor should be apart of WinZip. $49.00...Are you kidding? Anyone who needs this program should check out UltimateZip. Not only is it freeware, but also produces a Self Extract file. UltimateZip does more than WinZip and is very stable.

I've used it for over a year and it's worked each time, even after I close the registration box, it opens the extractor page and I get my files.
