Windows File Analyzer is an application that decodes and analyses certain files used regularly used by the Windows OS. Such files contain interesting bits of information that can be used for forensics analysis. Using this application, users can print out a user-friendly form of the results of the analysis. The Windows File Analyzer is designed to be in a multiple document interface. The following are the said individual analyzers: Prefetch Analyzer: * This analyser reads files that are usually stored in the Prefetch folder and draws out information stored therein Index.dat analyzer: *This analyser specifically scans for index.dat files and then displays their contents. Index.dat files normally store data from internet explorer such temp files, history and cookies. Thumbnail Database Analyzer: * This feature analyzes Thumbs.db files and shows its contents along with its stored data which effectively includes the image previews. Recycle Bin Analyzer: * This feature analyzes and decodes information that is displayed in info2 files which hold information regarding the contents of the recycle bin Shortcut Analyzer: * This feature analyzes all shortcut files in a user-specified folder and displays all the data which are stored within them.
