psutil is a module providing an interface for retrieving information on running Processes and system utilization (CPU, memory) in a portable way by using Python, implementing many functionalities offered by tools like ps, top and Windows task manager. It Currently supports Linux, OS X, FreeBSD and Windows. As of 2009-01-27 psutil is released to the general public. The current release (0.1.2) should be considered a beta release. No known bugs exist currently and all releases are fully tested with unit-tests and automated test scripts. However, the psutil Library has not been extensively tested by enough users in real-world environments to be considered rock-solid production code. Bug reports and patches welcome!
